Orvis Bibs – Fly Fishing or Ice Fishing

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Here is a great product from the Orvis Company that I’ve sold well the past few weeks for both guys fly fishing and ice fishing.  The ORVIS Under Wader Fleece System has stirrups so the legs don’t rid up and the back is one piece so you don’t get that cold draft you can expect with a 2 piece system. Here is what Orvis has to say:

Fleece you can rely on as an underlayer for waterfowling or cold-weather fishing. Wrap yourself ankle to chest in improved T400 fleece. Our fleece provides less bulk but greater insulation, breathability, and wicking properties. So, you get superior warmth and greater comfort under your waders than any other fleece system. Special 4-way stretch adjusts to individual body type; plus gives crucial mobility and increased durability. Stirrups hold suit in place for easy on and off of waders. Updated fit with smaller arm holes and higher neck scoop to block wind. 7″ breast zip-flap pocket secures wallet, keys, and other essentials. Fleece available in black. Washable. Imported.

Pere Marquette River Report – Outfitters North

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Here is an up to date fishing report from our friend Jeff Hubbard @ outfittersnorth.com

The Pere Marquette Steelhead fishing has still been very good. Cold but good. (: Seeing some new fish coming in with the rise in water we had last week. The river is dropping fast, though it’s still holding a nice stain. For Flies nymphs have been good, try Stones,Caddis,”Squirrel” Nymph. For eggs colors have been cheese, apricot and HubbaBubba. For Streamers get them down and fish them slow. Leeches and numerous baitfish patterns have been the ticket. Winter Steelhead fishing has been great this year. And it looks like the old ground hog saw his shadow so winter might set in up here for a few more weeks. If interested in some winter Steelheading check out my special on the Current News page. Open dates for the winter special are: February 9,10,18

Pics from the week so far. 1/26, 2/1,/2/2 Fraser joined me for a couple days of cold weather, but some of the most memorable Steelhead fishing I’ve seen in a long time. Here is one of the biggest, coolest looking bucks I’ve seen in awhile. Fraser with a nice chrome hen. Nice Steelhead I took on the swing while the water was high.

Drop me an email if you want to book a trip, or if looking for an up to the minute report.

Tightlines,
Jeff

Fly Tying Material

Friday, February 6th, 2009

I’ve been thinking of bringing a new material to the market…Ground Hog???
With his recent prediction of 6 more weeks of winter I’ve decided we may have to get rid of this silly folk lore. I don’t know about you but I can’t take much more of this weather. I don’t mind a nice snow fall around Christmas to put shoppers in the Holiday Spirit. But, waking up to 6, 10 or -5 degrees in the morning is getting a little old. I need to get somewhere warm…

Finally a fishing report…

And he caught a fish!!! Nice job Jeff

Friday I fished with good friend, photographer, and angler Matt Grajewski. The shelf ice was pretty bad still as you can tell from the pics Matt took, but we decided to give it a try anyways. The action was pretty slow with icebergs floating down, and water temps in the low 30′s. I did manage to connect with a nice hen though swinging a Spey/Leech pattern I made that morning. This fish hit pretty hard and put up a nice fight which was surprising giving the water temps. So I would have to say it turned out to be a great cold day of winter Steelhead fishing. (:
