Stop by the shop to get a spot. Tons of good fishing in MI right now!
Big Streamers Big Fish
Here is a trophy Brown Trout from the North that our friend Alex L. got last week while many anglers were out chasing Salmon. Lots of good fishing still around...
Meet Nick Evon
We'd like you to meet Nick Evon to Nomad Anglers. You'll find Nick at the shop helping out at the shop this Summer and Fall. Nick started out as a true "Ski" bum and morphed into a "Trout" bum out in Jackson Hole, WY. Nick worked at a premiere fly shop all last summer out West. He has a wide range of experiences fishing out West and loves to share his passion of the sport of fly fishing with others. Nick is a Human Biology Junior at MSU that is taking it a few classes at a time so he can get plenty of fishing and skiing in before he's forced to get a real job. He's off to a good start so far this Summer with a great Au Sable Brown.
Cabin Coachman 2.0
the Cabin Coachman - modified to Todd Whites version
Hook: Standard Dry Fly 10-18 or a fancy Gama Retainer Bend Hook like the picture.
Tail: Red & White Hackle Fibers
Body: Peacock Herl - Green
Hackle: Brown and Grizzly Mixed
Wings: Blue Goose Shoulder
Brook trout watch out!
"A coachman with the usual peacock herl body but with a red tail, hackle of Barred Rock and Phode Island Red and with Andalusian wings tied spent, was tied first at "The Cabin" of George Mason, president of Nash Motors, on the South Branch of the AuSable (Michigan) River. About 1934, Mason and John Stephan conceived the idea of changing, in some respects, the Coachman fly which Mason used at that time, an all brown hackle with a red tip. First they tied a few with a mixed or Adams hackle. This proved to be successful and so they proceeded to find a name for it. Because of the place of its origin, it was called the Cabin Coachman.
Michigan Hex Hatch
Don't give up yet! There are still bugs on the Au Sable and the Manistee River. Here's a nice fish taken on the Au Sable last night. Bugs are a bit patchy throughout the state but, BIG fish are still looking up! We'll probably have Hex through next weekend.
Streamer Fishing With Bob

Got a chance to fish below Mio with Doc and Bob Linsenman on Saturday. Besides the Spartans score what a perfect day on the water. We caught a number of fish between 12-16 inches and couldn't break that 18-20+ inch mark like we hoped to. Rainbows and Browns chased down Yellow and White streamers with the Nutcracker the most productive fly of them all. Bob is a wealth of knowledge in the Grayling/Mio area. He is the author of Au Sable River Journal, Great Lakes Steelhead, Best Streams for Great Lakes Steelhead, and Modern Streamers for Trophy Trout. Besides authoring the books, Bob has spent the majority of his life guiding the "Trophy Waters" of the Au Sable Below Mio and has also developed a handful of patterns for trout fishing. You'll find Bob most of the time behind the counter at his shop "Bob Linsenman's Au Sable Angler" just north of the rive in Mio on the right hand side. www.ausableangler.com
Cedars for the Au Sable
North Branch of the Au Sable
Spent the weekend camping and fishing on the North Branch of the Au Sable with a two old buddies...
We didn't land anything huge but we sure caught a lot of pretty fish. Great bug hatches during the day and good times on the water. The North Branch is a special place...
