Reverse Push
Fish are doing a "reverse push" as the end there spawning season and head back to Lake Michigan. There are still a bunch of drop backs in the Muskegon and Big Manistee to chase.

Big Manistee Steelhead Sandy
Sandy with her biggest steelhead to date. Fishing with Jon Ray from Hawkins Fly Fishing. I talked to Jon today and he said they are still doing pretty well on the chrome.
She is also sporting the Simms Windstopper Stocking Cap.
North, South, East & West Steelhead
It sounds like Steelheading is on FIRE right now. I've heard AWESOME reports from the Big Manistee, Muskegon, White and the Grand as well as good numbers of fish in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York. Now is the time to get out and get a shot at some chrome.
Big Manistee River Report
Aaroun K. spent a day on the river with his daughter chasing Steelhead, Salmon and Trout. Here is the report from our friends at Hawkins Fly Fishing Outfitters.
Had the pleasure of spending the day with Alyssa (age 9) and father Aaron today, as Alyssa put on a show battling steelhead, brown trout, and monster Kings. Alyssa did a great job bring all those to the net expect for Mr. Steelhead. No worries, there is always next time! Great Job today Alyssa!
Small nukes did the best today, with slight touches of orange surrounded by pale colors light cotton candy or sunrise yellow. As the egg buffet is still in full swing in the gravel areas. Look for swung flies to really start working soon, as more adult steelhead are starting to show up. Can't wait to tie into an adult with 10 pound and size 2 sculpin pattern instead of 6 pound and a size 8 egg fly. I need some revenge on the steelhead whopping's that I'm taking so far this fall on the small fly.

Big Manistee Salmon – Hawkins

Kings are on the move. The recent winds and rains have brought a decent number of kings (and at least this Coho picture above) up the Big Manistee. I have reports that fish are present from the mouth to Tippy Dam. Today we mover fish on Chartreuse and White. This Coho killed a Chartreuse and White Fraggle Rock. The fish that came to the fly were almost all in medium depth woody areas.
The numbers should continue to increase over the next few days. I look for the next ten days to be the best time to pursue kings on streamers on the Manistee River. Call Cherie for open dates/guides and get in on this exciting fishing. ~Hawk

I'd like to thank Ed and everyone that showed up for the fly tying demonstration yesterday. Patterns soon to show up online. Remember, if you'd like to share a day chasing trout on dry flies or indicator nymphing for steelhead contact the guys at www.hawkinsflyfishing.com There are a good number of fishing in both the PM and the Big Manistee right now. During the next warm up the fishing should turn on again. The guide from Hawkins right now fish everyday they can and offer half day guide trips if a full day in cold is a bit to much for you. Here is a preview of some of the fish you will encounter on a trip.
