Cabin Fever for Shop Dogs

Only during this time of the year does Cayenne the shop dog decide to help select fly tying materials off the wall for our next pattern.  For some reason I think she wants us to tie some Bass bugs.

Dunn Creek Pheasant Hunting

Just got back from a morning hunt with the shop dog Cayenne.  We put up 6-7 pheasants and took home 4 birds by 11am this morning.  Got some nice long PT tails for fly tying classes this winter.  If you want somewhere close to go chase some birds check out www.dunncreek.net.  The place has 4 very nice fields and an awesome club house/ lodge for after a day in the field.

Cayenne’s First Pheasant

Took Cayenne out for her first official hunt today.  We hunted with shop friend Fay and his seasoned Yellow Lab.  After a few birds were put up by his dog, Cayenne was ready for her shot.  While we were walking down a trail she ran in front of me, scented a bird, flushed it, I shot and then she went a retrieved it.  She had figured out the game now.  After this, it was difficult to get her out of the woods.  Time to start tying some PT Nymphs.

Orvis Strikes Again – Dog Bed

I've been selling ORVIS Products since 1999 and have to say each year they have been a few items in the catalog that you just stop a say "are you serious?" Well the latest installments of dog products had a great one. If you like Orvis Dog Beds and you like your Croc Shoes/Saddles, put them together and you get a great product. Well that has worked for certain items but it's your decision on this one. I'm not sure if i'll be picking one up for Cayenne. If you'd like to order give us a call - i.e. FREE SHIPPING.

Elora, Ontario is Gorrrrrrrgous

Last weekend we meet up with a couple friends from Syracuse NY in a place called Elora, Ontario. Its about a 4-4.5 hour drive from the shop but well worth it. On this trip we didn't do a whole lot of fishing but it still was a good time. The campsite is called Elora Gorge Conservations Area which is located on the Grand River. The site has anything from very rustic sites that are located on the River to normal day hook ups for the the big rigs. While there you can fish the entire stretch of river throughout the grounds and fish next to huge towering rock walls for trophy Brown Trout. The river gets very good May Fly and Caddis hatches. Since we spent most of our time around the camp fire and hiking the trails I don't have any pictures of trophy browns to show you. If you have a long weekend and want to experience something a little different grab your tent, rods and passport and hit the road. The scenery alone makes it worth the trip.

Fly Tying Materials?

Not sure if Cayenne was trying to get at some new fly tying materials or if it was the bird dog inside?

Fish Dog

Every good fly shop needs a fish dog. We'd like to welcome the latest Nomad to the fly shop. Cayenne a 12 week old Labrador Retriever ~ So far she hasn't chewed up to many Z-Axis fly rods...just a few hare's masks and pheasant tails. Stop and the shop and you might meet her.
