“Man Purse” for Fly Fishing

Fishpond Lodgepole Satchel

Fishpond Lodgepole Satchel

It's kind of like a "Man Purse" for fly fishing.  New for 2011 the Fishpond Lodgepole Fly Fishing Satchel is the perfect gear bag for fishing small creeks with light weight fly rods.  Back in the day my Dad us to drag me around with the creel on my side to hold the worms, hooks and fish.  Well this piece from Fishpond is like the modern day creel.  I wouldn't use it to keep fish in but, it holds a bunch of fly boxes and other gear you may need on the stream. Rio Smallmouth Bass Fly Line

Looking for a fly line to meet the demands of a bass fisherman?  The new Rio Smallmouth line was developed to load rods at close range while casting big flies.  It features a medium length powerful front taper that is ideal for casting these flies.  A very unique handling section at the back of the head gives anglers increased mending ability and line control at range.  The line also features a dual tone so you know where the line's loading area is.

ORVIS ACCESS Fly Rod

I finally got to cast a bunch of the new ORVIS Access Fly rods due out this winter. WOW...I've yet to cast a rod in this price point that is as light and still has the same power as the $500+ price point rods. Using the same Exclusive Load Ratio developed for the Helios and Hydros rods to produce a taper that feels powerful yet lively when casting or when playing a fish.

Recent breakthroughs in fiber/resin combination's by the military contractor who provides Orvis with its raw materials allow the rod designers to make these rods ultra-lightweight and responsive.

The Access fly rod will be available in 3wt. models - 12wt. sometime this winter.  If you'd like to to pre-order this rod - Click Here

Rio Clouser Line – Chuck Big Bugs!

Now with warm water season in full swing it's time to toss a piece of meat out to the species you are targeting.  Who want's to catch 5" dinks anyways?

Big Fly = Big Fish?

Well RIO PRODUCTS has the line for you.  It's called the Clouser Line and it's designed to turn over big, bigger and the biggest bugs in your box.  I've been fishing it for the last year and think it's the best for turning over big mice at night for trout or tossing a Deer Hair Diver for pike.

If you are struggling casting big flies on a 5wt. or 6wt. you might want to consider this line instead of the plain jane WF line you allready have.

$69 might help you catch that next trophy!  <click>

Simms Windstopper Foldover Mitt Review

Click.Buy.Fish

Field Test: SIMMS NEW 2010 Windstopper Foldover Mitt - $49.95
Recently SIMMS redesigned their old fleece windstopper gloves and came out with a new pair, although the new pair is slightly more expensive, the upgrades SIMMS made is well worth the extra money! The main upgrade is that the new gloves are made from a soft shell fabric with a windstopper membrane rather than fleece, this new fabric absorbs far less water, is 100% wind proof and is less bulky than fleece making the gloves all around more warm and more comfortable. They also added an elastic band to hold the fold over which is much sturdier than the old Velcro. Another added feature is an internal pocket designed to hold disposable heater packs. With temps in the low 20’s last week I got the chance to put my new pair to the test, I was VERY impressed with how warm they stayed throughout the day, even after handling fish, physically removing ice off my guides every few minutes, and digging my hands in the snow to climb up river banks my hands stayed dry and warm, making it easy to rig up especially because I was having one of those days where I seemed to loose a box worth of flies! It was easy to pull the fold over mitt back every time I needed to use my fingers, and easy to replace it when I wanted the full warmth of the mitten. SIMMS defiantly surpassed my expectations with these gloves and I would recommend them to any angler or hunter who wants to keep their hands warm and dry this winter!
