Dog Days of Summer
We've hit the end of the summer...most of the major hatches are done but there is still plenty of opportunities out there for trout.
You've got Tricos, Terrestials and of coarse "Hair Balls" at night. Only word of advice is to make sure you handle and release the fish ASAP due to the warm water temps.

Now that’s a TROUT!
Rickey with Brown taken mousing Up North!
I my opinion this is a TROUT definition of a "TOAD".
Congrats nice fish!

Playing with your food?
We had hopes of a 2 foot brown last night. Temperature was still around 70 @ 2 am which should have made the fishing grrrreat. We still managed to have 15-20 blow ups and had a hook up ratio of about 2:20. I'm not sure what the deal is I guess the trout had another night where they were playing with their food.
Did manage to land one decent trout and got to test the new underwater cam.
Got it on a white/black G.G.

Muskrat on the Fly
Here's a good report from Josh G @ Gates Au Sable Lodge in Grayling, MI.

Here's how to release a tail-hooked muskrat. First, play it quickly -- try to keep it out of the logjams. Second, hold the tail upward so it can be grasped: a muskrat can't bite it's own tail if you maintain proper tension. Third, remove the hook (preferably barbless) and return your trophy back to the stream. As always, a picture is an absolute must...

Bad Moon Rising
"Bad Moon Rising" by CCR was the first song that came on Pandora this morning. What a fitting song for the morning. East Lansing departure time 6:30 on the water by 9:00, off the water at 4am, sleep 2.5 hours and on the road again back home. Last night turned out to be great night on the water, better for some of us than others. If you remember from an earlier blog post that his first HEX fish has a pretty decent fish <here is the post> well, his first MOUSE fish was even better! I very heafty 23"-24" brown that decided to slam his new pattern you coined "the Stornant Hornet" All in all, we had well over 20 flushes on mice, gurglers, frogs and the Hornet. Jeff manage to lose probably the biggest fish of the night at about 2:30. When the moon was covered by the clouds the fishing was productive when there was no clouds you didn't need a light and the fishing was a bit slow. We'll be looking towards the middle of next week when the moon is little bit less full...
Dont go around tonight,
Well, its bound to take your life,
Theres a bad moon on the rise.
