Jeff "Bear" Andrews testing out the new 7100 Sage ONE fly rod.

Jeff "Bear" Andrews

Sorry folks for my lapse in posting. Ole Maynard's wisdom hit a dry spell recently, but managed to hit up the PM today with mixed success. Between the 2 of us, hooked into 3 fish a piece but neither presented a photo opportunity. River was in great shape, but as the day went on the fishing slowed and a cold front moved in. Fishing should be gangbusters with the next warm up. Get out early to avoid the crowds.
Maynard's wisdom of the week: while we all must share the river, please do so with proper etiquette. While I am glad to share the river with others, floating in a boat and carelessly fishing the run we just bumped 4 fish in does not constitute as etiquette. It may also receive the verbal bashing of on an irritated angler. Respect the river, and as important, respect other anglers. Share the passion, share the thrill.
Anyway, bite has ended and it's time to watch some Big 10 basketball.

The 2010 Salmon season is now over for me. I would like to thank everyone for another great season and looking forward to seeing you next fall or sooner. The Pere Marquette is finally looking like a fishy river again. With heavy rain and wind storms the last couple of days we are finally starting to see some color and a rise in the water. Which is good for Steelheading. My Fall/Winter Steelhead season starts next week so I will keep everyone posted. I'm really excited to start swinging flies. I have been looking forward to this since last Steelhead season came to and end. (: If interested in some Steelhead fishing or just learning how to swing flies or cast Spey rods I have some dates open, mid to late December and January. Just send me a e-mail or give me a call. Also, check out the Current News Page to for some new gear I will be using this fall to chase those silver bullets. Check out the Spey Page to for tactics and fly patterns we use this time of year. I took some time off to do some Bird Hunting but the weather hasn't been in our favor, we have been going anyways birds down or no birds down, it's just to nice to be in the woods this time of year. Great time to spend with good friends and good dogs.
BOOK A TRIP
Here is an updated PM Report from our friend Jeff Hubbard @ Outfitters North
The Pere Marquette River is still fishing tough for Salmon. I would say this is turning out to be one of the hardest seasons I have ever seen, even as a youngster fishing we always had plenty of Salmon. The fish are really scattered through out the whole river system. We really haven't seen any big pushes of Kings even with the fall like weather we are receiving up here. We have had the rain, the wind and the cooler weather with no signs of huge numbers of fish. The leaves are starting to change and Grouse Season opened last week so Fall is in the air. Other then the fishing being tough, I did have a nice week. I found myself enjoying the woods with a good friend and client John, my girl friend Heather and our Pointing Lab (Guinness). Chasing birds around, enjoying the scenery and shooting some shells there's nothing like wandering the woods on a fall morning in Northern Michigan.

The Pere Marquette is still very spotty for Salmon. Fish are really scattered through out the whole river system. With recent rains on Saturday some new fish moved up but continued to be on the move and scattered quickly. The river is up a little with a slight stain to it. Flies have been big eggs in Chartreuse and Baitfish Patterns. Streamers Chartreuse/White or Red/Orange. Trout fishing was also good last week with small Streamers in White,Olive and Black. Look for trout fishing in the upper river to improve with Salmon starting to spawn.
