This Fall has certainly been interesting, and at times a bit frustrating. With August-like weather leeching into the king salmon run and scattered, short-lived rainfall across most of the lower peninsula, many of us are hoping for a long cold soak. Many steelhead anglers are happy to see lower, fairly consistent temperatures ahead.  The run of king salmon is tapering down and a few coho are being found. Steelhead numbers are increasing. There is no question it is fall in Michigan. After a long hot summer the weather has finally cooled off, the leaves are changing, mornings are crisp, and there is even some rain in the forecast! This is among the best times of the year to get outside and enjoy some time on the water. Opportunities abound. Trout fishing has been great, Kings and Cohos are still around, and Steelhead are on the horizon.

We are on the leading edge of arguably the best fishing of the year. Water temps are dropping to a lower level, and fish activity is really ramping up. Salmon run is slightly past peak, Steelhead are showing up, and the trout fishing is getting really good. We are recovering from the high water last week, and nearly all the rivers impacted are now down and approachable again. They are still on the high side, but not nearly what they were 6 days ago.
