Full Swing Fall

There is no question it is fall in Michigan. After a long hot summer the weather has finally cooled off, the leaves are changing, morning air is crisp, and there is even some rain in the forecast! That's a good thing because we need rain. Bad.

So far, fall has been dry and rivers are low which has made fishing a bit challenging. That being said, this is among the best times of the year to get outside and enjoy some time on the water. Opportunities abound.

Kings are around, but winding down on many rivers. Still seeing fish being caught downtown, and up north. The rain in next weeks forecast could push up some more fish and draw things out a bit.

Trout fishing has been very good the past few weeks. As big pre-spawn browns strap on the feed bag, nymphing can be very good. Try a pats rubber legs, Frenchies, or slush eggs if you are Euro Nymphing.

Streamer fishing for trout has also been picking up in northern Michigan. Fall streamer floats can be very productive and the scenery makes them even more enjoyable.

It is that time of year where we start shifting gears towards Steelhead. There are fish around, but we have been working for them. If the forecast holds, things should only improve on the steelhead front. This is a great time of year to swing for steelhead, if you are looking to upgrade your setup stop by and check out the Orvis Mission 11' 8wt Switch. It is a very impressive rod, incredibly light, and an absolute cannon.
