Bugs bugs bugs! Hennies are falling, fish are eating, there’s not much else to say besides go fishing it’s dry fly season! But in all seriousness this fishing report is going to be short and sweet, the weather is finally playing out like it should in May. We have had good warm up in temps which is helping us so much with bugs right now. The rogue river is on fire with tons of caddis, BWOs, and hennies falling it’s been fun guiding dry fly stuff after a long cold winter. The caddis have been in the 12-14 size range, BWOs in sizes 18-20 have been the ticket, and for hennies it’s been 14s taking the cake!
Anyone else been small mouth fishing lately? The Smallie bite has been absolutely fire and I mean absolutely fire, every client I have taken out as of late has boated 10 or more. The smallies are full pre spawn mode eating everything that hits the water, it’s been a struggle finding those bigger fish but the 15-18 inches are absolutely hammering the fly which has been a lot of fun. If you are heading out this weekend throwing bigger 5-7 inch flies has been crushing them all over west Michigan!
So get out there this weekend there’s early summer fishing is in full blast!
