Most rivers are still icy and slushy. There are some steelhead around for those of you willing to go and chase them. The only thing we need right now is a break in the weather. The cold temps and precipitation have made conditions less than favorable. What a crazy week that was. The entire state was essentially shut down for several days, with bone chilling temps and insane amounts of snow. The total snowfall for GR last week was somewhere in the 17" range. Much of it melted over the last couple days, causing the rivers to rise a bit. Most rivers are starting to thaw, but shelf ice and slush are still preventing easy access. High, dirty, cold water makes fishing tough, but not impossible. Here's the river yesterday morning. We are finally winding down from the holidays, and reflecting on the past year. What a blast! Fishing was spectacular, and we hope the same holds true for 2019. We had the privilege of meeting some awesome new people, and fishing with old friends. It was a great year, both on the water and in the shops. Thanks for all the support! We truly appreciate it! Santa is a steelheading machine! He has a gentle touch, stealthy approach, and is immune to cold weather. An absolute BEAST on the river!   Steelheading has improved over the last week. The mild temps and sunshine have increased fish metabolism, and their willingness to cooperate. Still finding them in the classic winter spots, holding tight to wood and structure. Bright eggs paired with a washed out color (clown egg & pale glo bug) is a good setup. Also having some action on hexes, stones, and wiggler type buggy stuff.  Trout bite has been good, on more "trout" sized patterns. Size 12 and 14...

Steelhead and trout fishing have been good locally and up north, but numbers of fish are low and water temps and made things challenging. A warmup over the next few days will greatly improve things, and make fishing more bearable. Egg flies, estaz eggs, and flashy nymphs have all been good lately.
