Looking at the forecast prior to typing the report it looks like we are facing another 90 degree day. Hot weather and low clear water means that the dog days of summer are upon us. In the past several weeks I have had the opportunity to get out on the flat, Rogue, and Muskegon and PM. Fish came to hand on each of them but it is definitely time to switch up the program and focus on top water game with terrestrials, attractors and poppers.

For the trout game please watch your water temps. We have already had some days when the water temps were high and fishing for trout just was not the responsible thing to do. After last weeks break in the heat and we were blessed with a little rain I was able to spend some time on the water and early morning nymphing, terrestrials, attractors, and skunks all worked. Get those nymphs deep and put those terrestrials, attractors, and skunks close to the banks and structure. If you are a creature of the night the mouse game can pay off for you in a big way.

Smallmouth are definitely the star of the summer. They can take the heat well, put up a fantastic fight, and are usually willing to play. Baitfish patterns and crayfish patterns work well but who doesn't like throwing poppers and waiting for the explosion. Put that popper out there and let it marinate a bit before giving it some additional movement and you should be rewarded.

Carp fishing has definitely been growing in popularity and we are offering a Carp 101 class if you are interested in adding another species to pursue.
The shop is stocked up and continues to offer a variety of classes to assist you. If you have any questions please feel free to stop in and we will do our best to help you out.
