This is a simple steelhead nymph that works all year long. It mimics a small hex nymph, golden stone, brown drake nymph, and just looks generally edible. The Nymph Flash Brushes from Renzetti make a quick brushy body with very little effort. This is a nice little hex nymph pattern that has tons of movement, which steelhead have a hard time ignoring. Even though it takes a bit of time, this fly is worth it. But save it for the spots you know. The last thing you want to do is send it right into a pile of wood on your first drift. Silver Shiners are a favorite food of Smallmouth Bass. The minnow at the start of this video was coughed up by a smallmouth, so naturally, we came up with this little minnow imitation. It's easy to tie, and best fished with 6 or 7wt fly rod. The barring on top is optional. Black sharpie works just fine.
