Euro Nymphs, Trout Flies -

This little fly has been a menace to the trout and steelhead lately. It's a great pattern to hide a ton of weight within, getting it to the bottom very quickly. We typically use this on a euro nymphing setup, but you can also fish it under an indicator as well. It's a simple fly, that you won't feel bad losing to the wood. It can be tied in tons of different colors and sizes. As the salmon eggs mature and turn into Alevin, the next phase in the salmon life cycle is the "Fry" stage. It starts to look a bit more like a minnow as the yolk sac is absorbed. The head is more defined, the parr marks start to appear, and they become a little stronger. They are better at swimming in this stage, so a swung presentation is a good way to fish this pattern.  This is a very easy fly to tie, with just a handful of materials needed. You will burn through a pack of hooks in no time. This...

Here's a rundown of the materials used: MATERIALS:(+) add to cart Hook: Sz 8 egg hook (The Gamakatsu C14S hook is nice) (+)Thread: White Veevus 50D (+)Yolk Sack: Steelhead Orange McFlyFoam (any similar color will work) (+)Body: Violet Squirmito (Pink would work too) (+)Eyes: Living Eyes, 3mm, Ice (again, color doesn't matter too much) (+)Other Stuff: Loctite Gel...

Nymphs, Steelhead Flies, Trout Flies -

During the Spring, caddis larva are a big food source for trout and steelhead. They become dislodged from the gravel when steelhead start fanning the rocks to make their beds. Next time you're on the river, tie this on, and drift it through the pool below any active gravel. Pretty solid fly choice. They are super easy to tie, and the clear vinyl rib adds durability, and a nice segmentation that looks better than plain wire. Get with the program and tie some up. Can't go wrong with this one!  MATERIALS: (+) add to cart Hook: Daichii 1120 sz 8 (+)Bead: Tungsten Matte Black...
