Holy smokes, it’s been too long since we’ve put up a report. That isn’t necessarily due to a lack of fishing! Sorry for the delay here, I’ll try to touch on a few things that we’ve been up to over the summer. 

First of all, thanks to everyone who came out for the Bass One Fly tournament. For whatever reason, the big fish weren’t biting great that day, but the nursery was in full force! It was a fun group and honestly, a very nice day to fish which has seemed a little tough to come by this summer between extreme heat and pouring rain. Small baitfish seemed to be the ticket, no surprises there… Luckily, most folks avoided pike and gar and managed to hang onto their flies throughout the day. 

I haven’t done too much smallie fishing this summer other than a few random days here and there. Walking the flats in the big pond was pretty cool. Again - 3” baitfish produced a good number of fish alongside a small olive crayfish. 

The trout front has been an interesting one since early July. I spent way too much time hex fishing. I’m not sure I’ve seen as much high water with bugs as I did this year. Yes, there were some very good nights but many more lackluster trips. Not much more to say there, I’ll let a couple photos do the talking on the nights we managed to put a few pieces together. I took a trip further north a couple of weeks back and scratched the brook trout itch on small water. Hoppers, caddis, ants, are all good bets this late in the summer. 

We should have more to discuss within a couple of weeks! I’ll be out past dark swinging mice and frogs around. It won’t be long until we start seeing salmon climb up a few of our rivers as well, so take advantage of our last phase of summer. It’s a great time to chase warm water species around or shoot up north for a long weekend. We could use a shot or two of water in some of our rivers, we’re back to low and clear after a very wet early summer.
