Fall Rain
As I write this report the fall rain we have been hoping for is finally falling. Its been a cloudy week, hinting at rain each day, but last night the sky finally broke open and brought the shot of rain we needed. I don't want to jinx our luck, but it looks like tonight should bring more of the same. Rivers are on the rise and our local water is at the highest level its been in months. This is good news.
Fishing was pretty good this weekend, but low water conditions made things a little tough. Smaller more natural patterns, and persistence were the keys to success.
With last nights rain, and the rivers on the rise we should get a fresh push of fish and big and flashy are back on the menu. This is the best time of year to swing for steelhead. With water temps in the 50s, fish are charged up and ready to chase down big flashy flies.
Steelhead in the Manistee River continue to show up below Tippy Dam and the fishing has been improving. Swinging flies and nymphing with egg patterns have been productive.
Fall nymphing continues to be good, and streamer fishing for trout has been picking up as well.
Good luck to everyone getting out this weekend, just a reminder our Grand Rapids shop has expanded hours: Mon/Tue/Wed 10-6, Thur 10-7, Fri 10-6 and Saturday 10-2. East Lansing location remains Mon-Fri 1-4 and by appointment text Brian at 517-230-2888.
