A few of us got out over the holiday weekend, and despite the heavy canoe traffic, low clear water and blue skies, the Trout fishing was decent. We caught several Trout on nymphs out of faster pocket water. Stoneflies and soft hackles were the main producers. Mousing continues to produce in rivers that aren't over-run with Salmon, although the lower water levels exposed the weeds on the surface and it was tricky to put the fly in the right spot on the inside bends without getting weeds on the fly. We didn't roll a ton of fish on mice, but...

Bye bugs we will see you next year! Now that the hatches are almost all done and the days are warmer night time mousing is picking up. So break out the 8wts and floating lines and start chucking mice at the bank! Now, what if you're not a night time person? Well you're in luck because it’s also hopper season. Once the sun gets high, look for shady wood piles, over hanging trees, cut banks, and most importantly tall grass that over hangs next to the water! With hopper fishing sometimes it’s about drawing them out to come take a swipe...

Warm weather returned last week and it blew the lid off the hex fishing. Good reports from across the state have been rolling in all week. The little dip in temps we had earlier this week should draw things out just enough for a last hurrah of hex fishing this weekend. Just like the trout eating surface flies during the night we...

Summer Bugs are here, over the weekend the brown drakes showed up in full force. A group of the Nomad Anglers crew sent it up north to chase the falling brown drakes with some success. Plenty of bugs around and fish eager to feed. Brown drakes are winding down now, and I would expect the big bugs to start any day now. Isos are starting to show up in fishable numbers as well. These are a great option to blind fish in the early evening before the bigger bugs fall. Swing by the shop to load up on big flies...

Well the heat wave is still here, water levels are way down and water temps are on the rise. We are in need of some rain ASAP!!! Where does that put us with bug hatches right now? With the high temps things are happening late, and hatches are going to go quick. Hopefully next week's cooler temps will put the brakes on a bit. For the most part Grey Drakes are still the main bug popping off during that dusk time period and there are trout still looking up to eat those bugs. Plenty of sulphurs on the Muskegon as...
