24/7
We are at the peak of the "24/7 season." Trout fishing is good all day and all night. No matter how you approach the river, anytime of day can be productive. So much fun having all these opportunities available. Mousing, hatch matching, streamer fishing, prospecting dries, indicator nymphing, euro nymphing, trout spey, soft hackles, and even terrestrial fishing are all in play. It's an incredible time to be a fly angler in the great state of Michigan. We truly have it good, and we are excited to be smack dab in the middle of the best fishing window of the...
We're Back! And Fishing Isn't Cancelled.
First off, we want to thank everyone who has continued to support us during this very difficult time, we are so thankful for our loyal customers who continue to shop local even in the face of a global pandemic. THANK YOU!!! After an unplanned hiatus we are happy to say we are back to some sense of normalcy here at the shop. We are now allowed to have customers in the shop "by appointment". All of our appointments will be first come first served. Masks are required in the shop, and we are allowing 2 customers in the store at...
August 1st, 2019 | Late Summer
Now that it's August, we are entering the final phase of summer. Attractor flies for trout is a good option, nymphing is productive, and mousing at night can be epic. Tricos fished with extremely light tippet and super small flies can be fun (if you're into that sort of thing). Hoppers, ants, and beetles are also on the menu. Daytime smallmouth fishing is in it's prime. August is great for smallies. They are widespread, and willing to chase and eat nearly any type of fly as long as you don't spook them. Everyone loves to fish poppers and topwater flies, but...
May 29th, 2019 | Summer Jams
If you haven't noticed, we have been getting plenty of rain. A little too much. Most rivers are unseasonably high, with levels reminiscent of spring runoff rather than early summer. Despite this, fishing has been good, and hatches have been decent. Water temps are finally getting into the upper 50s pretty much everywhere, which will only improve the hatch reliability. Hennies are basically done, with the lingering spinner fall here and there. Sulphers are going strong, and grey drakes are starting nearly everywhere. Caddis are still prevalent and provide some action during the day. Once 5pm rolls around, look for...
