Summer is finally here and we are settling into our favorite month of the year for fly fishing in Michigan. Along with warm weather and long days, June brings some of the best fly fishing opportunities of the year. From smallmouth on top water to Trout sipping big bugs and everything in between June has it all.

Trout fishing takes center stage in June. As we transition from the weeks of bug soup into "Big Bugs" matching the hatch becomes less complex, but timing and tactics still play a roll. Northern rivers are fishing well, its been a slow start to the season with the cooler weather which has really lingered. But Isos, Brown Drakes, and Hex are all on the menu depending on which river system you target. Blind fishing isos late in the day as you wait for the big bugs to arrive is always a great option. Swing by the shop for the latest, and we will set you up with the flies you need.

Locally the Smallmouth fishing has been pretty good. Smallmouth fishing in west Michigan really shines in the summer. Its a great time of year to get out and spend an afternoon on the water close to home.

Carp are another great local option if you are looking to avoid the crowds and target a new species. Give us a call if you'd like to book a trip for carp, we would love to show you how to target these elusive misunderstood fish.

We have lots of classes on the schedule in the coming weeks. If you are just getting into fly fishing or want to learn more about a new technique check out our class line up here

Good luck out there, enjoy the best month of the year!
