Well folks what a strange ride we have been on. Going from low water and no snow, to several feet of snow, to the huge melt and spring like conditions and then just like that thrown back into winter. Mother nature is definitely having a fun time throwing us curve balls. With that being said I do welcome the snow to help us sustain the water levels we have. The Rogue is currently running 240cfs, the Grand downtown is 5370cfs, the Muskegon at Croton is 1970cfs, and the PM at Scottville is 590cfs. Whether or not winter stays around or spring comes early it would be nice to get some additional precipitation to assist with the water levels going forward.
I took full advantage of the nice weather recently and spent some time on our local waterways. Steelhead are around but not in great numbers, you will still have to cover water and hunt for them. Luckily for us, the trout continue to be more than happy to fill in the voids and help fill the days. I would expect to see the steelhead fishing continue to improve as we move closer to March. Nymph fishing continues to be the go to method with hex, stones, eggs, and alevin taking fish. As we move closer to spring don't forget about the fry patterns.
The shop is still offering some winter tying classes. We also have two more brews and bugs coming up - Lance Nelson tying Au Sable Dry Flies on Tue Feb 20th from 6-8pm and Matt Grajewski covering streamer design on Sat Mar 2 from 9am-12pm. We also have Cole Devault discussing advanced Steelhead tactics on Thur Feb 29 from 6-8pm. Follow this link to RSVP for classes!
As always the shop is here to assist in any questions you may have or gear you may need and we thank you for your support. Enjoy the outdoors and get out when you can.
