April 19, 2018 - Steelhead Report
What a ridiculous Spring season it's been so far. Rain, sleet, snow, hail, wind, freezing rain, ice pellets, and even thunder have made things less than predictable. Overall, fishing has been good. Quite good actually. The Grand River and Rogue River have a good mix of winter and spring fish. Even though there are lots of steelhead around, it still feels more like early February than mid April. That's finally going to change this weekend. It seems our final push of Steelhead are moving up river right now. 6th Street dam is seeing lots of new chrome fish. We're talking...
April 18, 2018 - Red Cedar River Fishing Report
With the recent rain/snow/sleet what ever you want to call it - there has been a bump in the water levels. Look to possibly see a few steelhead in our local stream. Based on the number of fish at 6th dam in Grand Rapids I wouldn't be suprised to find a few chrome fish on or near campus. Caddis nymphs and egg patterns will be your best bet.
January 29, 2018 - January Thaw
A weekend warm up allowed us to get on the water. Lots of fish were caught, many more were lost. We'll let the photos do the talking.... Lots of people were on the water over the weekend, and it sounded like most people got into some fish. Gold/yellow rag eggs were hot, as well as stones and hexes. Meanwhile, Drew and his wife Maggie had an awesome day in Belize. Strong work! Here are some upcoming events: Grand Rapids (please RSVP via info@nomadanglers.com) Weds. Jan 31st 6pm- Brews n Bugs w/ Lance Nelson: Early Season Trout Flies Sat...
December 15, 2017 - Fishing Report
Grab your hand warmers and your Patagonia fleece winter has officially arrived. January and February are lining up to be great months in our steelhead rivers. While many anglers are starting to transition to the fly tying vice others are still chasing chrome and other species like MUSKY and Atlantic Salmon around the state! Cole with a swung Atlantic Salmon from the Au Sable River! It's awesome seeing this river become a fishery. Graeme with a bobber Steelhead from a recent trip to the Pere Marquette River. Focus your efforts on deeper slower runs and pound the water with small egg...
December 5, 2017 - River Report
Our fall season is wrapping up quickly as a major cold air mass bears down on the Midwest. We were blessed with lots of steelhead this season, many of which were quite large. By no means are we done, but things appear to officially be shifting into winter mode. Although swinging is still an option all winter, nymphing really pays the bills when the water chills. (ECHO SHADOW NYMPH ROD) Steelhead have been abundant, and the trout are mixed in with them. By far, dead drifting nymphs has been our most productive method lately. Egg patterns have been great too, especially...
