Lately on most river systems we've been playing the game "how low can we go" most of our river systems haven't seen rain in over 2 weeks. Any that have, never got any real rain water in the headwater sections. This has left the rivers in very rough shape for our migratory fish. Most runs are a week or so behind and have been small steady trickles of fish with no real pushes. Cooler nights have helped bring water temps down and bring in more salmon and a few early steelhead in the lower state rivers. Despite the conditions fishing...

 Well Fall is here and in full swing... From the temp drop, leaves changing colors, and oh ya Kings, Coho, and Steelhead are in hot and heavy! With the lack of water across the state it's been tough trying to fight the low gin clear water.  The name of the game right now is huge attractor patterns or tiny subtle patterns to get bites, whether that be blob eggs to size 8 McFly foam eggs but for the most part the key is fishing lighter line such as 10 lb. to get bites more often.  The rigs my clients and myself...

It's officially Fall, and we couldn't be happier. By far the most popular season among anglers, it provides countless fishing options and techniques. Weather permitting, it can really be a magical time to be on the water, with comfortable temps, great scenery, and active fish.    We've received mass amounts of rain in the past few days, and it's not done yet. Flood warnings have been issued for several counties in West Michigan. After today however, seems like the rain will stop, allowing the rivers to drop and clear. King Salmon are here in full force, and they are pretty much everywhere. They are quite large this year, and put up a major tussle when hooked. Some pushing 40lbs have been landed.  Coho salmon are also in full swing. Lots of them were at sixth street dam last week, and there are still some lingering. Most have made it through the dam and are in rivers upstream.  With all the rain last week, the rives are finally receding to a normal level. Nonetheless, make sure to wade with caution, as they are still a bit on the high side. ...

September is here, and the Salmon are rolling upstream at a pretty good pace. Most rivers have them, with more filling in each day. Just need some nastier weather to really get the main push going.  There are some Coho at 6th Street Dam, and a handful of Kings. The rivers up north are starting to really fill in with fish, especially the Manistee, Platte, Betsie, and Pere Marquette. It will really improve within the next couple weeks. Best flies are Eggs (Chartruese, Orange, Pink), Egg Sucking Leeches, Stones, and Caddis. Contrary to popular belief, they will grab these flies. They...
