May 29th, 2019 | Summer Jams
If you haven't noticed, we have been getting plenty of rain. A little too much. Most rivers are unseasonably high, with levels reminiscent of spring runoff rather than early summer. Despite this, fishing has been good, and hatches have been decent. Water temps are finally getting into the upper 50s pretty much everywhere, which will only improve the hatch reliability. Hennies are basically done, with the lingering spinner fall here and there. Sulphers are going strong, and grey drakes are starting nearly everywhere. Caddis are still prevalent and provide some action during the day. Once 5pm rolls around, look for...

May 16th 2019 | The Up and Up
After a chilly Spring, we are finally experiencing some real warmth. The next few days are going to be in the upper 70s, which is fantastic news. Hatch activity is increasing steadily, and fishing has been exceptional. We are on the up and up! Water levels are good, but still dirty in places after the rain last week. Even though it was rising rapidly, last Thursday we decided to do a quick float down the Muskegon. Water was high, but visibility was decent. It actually looked really good, and seemingly great streamer conditions. High water, good stain, and partly cloudy....
May 9th 2019 | Early Season Options
Still slow in transitioning to warmth, but it could always be worse! Bugs are hatching, fish are eating them, and chasing streamers nicely. Grand Rapids 10 day outlook. Not bad! We spent last weekend up north, throwing streamers and hoping for some Hendricksons. Each day was bright, and the water was surprisingly clear (and cold), so the bite was pretty quiet. We got a few, and hooked a couple really nice ones. Mostly on yellow. Had some action on chartreuse as well. Didn't find the big one we were looking for, but gave it a solid effort. Bright sun...
May 2nd, 2019 | Mayhem
So many fishing options available right now, it will make your head spin. It's hard to pick just one species, and one tactic to focus on for a day. Water temps are increasing daily, and it's feeling "fishier" lately. Despite the massive rain we got two nights ago, things should be fine by the weekend, but wading in certain areas may be tricky. Locally, we got a good amount of rain in the last 48 hours, but not enough to flood out the rivers. They are high and dirty, yes, but not unfishable. Keep an eye on the stream flows,...
