Welcome to the void. Our weather pattern is looking pretty dismal, with no relief from the Artic air masses that keep lashing the Midwest. Thus, we haven't been fishing much at all, simply because it's so frigid. Nobody really is. Sounds like there are still some fish at sixth street dam, but with the recent precipitation, it's a slushy mess, making it somewhat difficult. There's another sizable storm rolling in tomorrow, bringing with it ~5" of snow in GR. And the weekend temps are going to be in the teens, and single digits over night. That pattern will persist throughout...
It's alarming how many people have mentioned the Birdbox Challenge lately. Please, for the love of God, do not attempt this! There have been dozens of reported car crashes and other various mishaps lately nationwide because of this movie. If you must attempt it in a drift boat, at the very least, make sure you are BELOW the sixth street dam. You will not make it! But seriously, do not attempt this... Steelhead are scattered throughout our river systems, and sounds like more came up over the past few days. We haven't been out much lately, since we had a...
We are finally winding down from the holidays, and reflecting on the past year. What a blast! Fishing was spectacular, and we hope the same holds true for 2019. We had the privilege of meeting some awesome new people, and fishing with old friends. It was a great year, both on the water and in the shops. Thanks for all the support! We truly appreciate it! Lately, fishing has been surprisingly good. The weather over the past 2 weeks has been fairly "stable", with mild temps, decent rain, and light snow (in our neck of the woods anyway). Around the...
Santa is a steelheading machine! He has a gentle touch, stealthy approach, and is immune to cold weather. An absolute BEAST on the river! Steelheading has improved over the last week. The mild temps and sunshine have increased fish metabolism, and their willingness to cooperate. Still finding them in the classic winter spots, holding tight to wood and structure. Bright eggs paired with a washed out color (clown egg & pale glo bug) is a good setup. Also having some action on hexes, stones, and wiggler type buggy stuff. Trout bite has been good, on more "trout" sized patterns. Size 12 and 14...
Steelhead and trout fishing have been good locally and up north, but numbers of fish are low and water temps and made things challenging. A warmup over the next few days will greatly improve things, and make fishing more bearable. Egg flies, estaz eggs, and flashy nymphs have all been good lately.
