We are officially buried in snow. There is currently about 12 inches on the ground in Grand Rapids, with another few inches throughout the day, and more tomorrow. Welcome to the void. Our weather pattern is looking pretty dismal, with no relief from the Artic air masses that keep lashing the Midwest. Thus, we haven't been fishing much at all, simply because it's so frigid. Nobody really is. Sounds like there are still some fish at sixth street dam, but with the recent precipitation, it's a slushy mess, making it somewhat difficult. There's another sizable storm rolling in tomorrow, bringing with it ~5" of snow in GR. And the weekend temps are going to be in the teens, and single digits over night. We are finally winding down from the holidays, and reflecting on the past year. What a blast! Fishing was spectacular, and we hope the same holds true for 2019. Santa is a steelheading machine! He has a gentle touch, stealthy approach, and is immune to cold weather. An absolute BEAST on the river!   Steelheading has improved over the last week. The mild temps and sunshine have increased fish metabolism, and their willingness to cooperate. Still finding them in the classic winter spots, holding tight to wood and structure. Bright eggs paired with a washed out color (clown egg & pale glo bug) is a good setup. Also having some action on hexes, stones, and wiggler type buggy stuff.  Trout bite has been good, on more "trout" sized patterns. Size 12 and 14...
