October 18, 2018 - Chrome Arrival
Steelhead have officially started to show up in good numbers. Unlike last week, most rivers in the state have fishable numbers now. The rains brought in a fresh batch of fish, and with the dropping water, things are setting up nicely. Yes, there are still kings around, but they are basically done. The ones remaining are spawning, and will continue to do so for a couple weeks. Watch for the trout bite to improve as salmon spawning decreases, as each individual egg suddenly becomes more valuable when compared to 3 three weeks ago, when a trout could engorge itself daily...
October 11, 2018 - October Pivot
As you probably know by now, our salmon season was fantastic this year. Lots of huge fish were caught, many more were lost. The strength of these fish will never cease to amaze. CHECK OUT THE NEW FILSON UPLAND GEAR! The King Salmon are a mainstay of our fishery. They provide an opportunity for anglers of all skill levels to encounter some truly massive fish. Resident trout also feed heavily on their eggs, giving them a protein boost to sustain them through the winter. Aside from that, they bring in huge amounts of business to communities that rely on that...
September 27, 2018 - River Report
Fishing continues to be great, both locally and up north. Lots of Kings, Coho, and trout have been caught lately. There are some steelhead showing up, but the main fall run is still a couple weeks out. We are currently at "peak" salmon fishing. There is probably another push of Kings inbound, but it's safe to say the majority of them are in the rivers and spawning. Meanwhile, the trout fishing has been incredible. Streamer bite has been good too. Small flashy flies on bright days have been productive. There have been a few reports of steelhead caught on the...
September 14, 2018 - Fall Run
Salmon are here! The high water brought in a wave of fresh Kings, Coho, and a few Steelhead. The sixth street dam is loaded with fish, as well as anglers. They are moving upstream at a steady pace. It sounds crazy after all that flooding two weeks ago, but we could actually use another shot of rain. But regardless of that, fishing has been awesome. September is truly an incredible time to be an angler in Michigan. Northern rivers have plenty of fish, and they are just starting to spawn. Looks like it will be a great season with lots...
July 31, 2018 - Lansing Fishing Report
Michigan’s current dry spell has made the local fishing hit or miss. We are still picking up smallmouth bass near structure and pike in slower moving spots. Top flies for smallmouth have been desperate Housewives and BoogleBugs. Chartreuse and White seem to be the top two fly colors. With such dry weather the mosquitoes haven’t been terrible making it easier to jump in the Red Cedar and Looking Glass Rivers. Make sure you are fishing a wire or heavy fluorocarbon on either piece of water. Flies tied with Mini Dragon tails have been producing. The clear water had also made...
