Muskegon River Fishing Report RSS

Rob and company got out on the Muskegon for some trout fishing over the holiday break. They did pretty well, and even ran into friend of the shop Kevin Feenstra who was doing battle with a dandy.  The streamer bite started out hot in the upper river with near constant action from teener sized fish. Fishing along shallow wood and soft edges usually brought out a fish or two. 2-3 inch black streamers were the ticket, although fish were moving on other colors as well. After the last report our wishes came true and we finally received some rain.  Our local rivers all bumped up but we could still use some more water.  Current CFS has the Grand sitting at 3760cfs, The Muskegon at 1550 cfs, and the Rogue at 251 cfs.  It looks like the cooler weather will settle in for good by the end of this week.  The cooler water and air temps will hopefully bring a few more steelhead up.  The steelhead are around in our local rivers but you are going to have to put in your time, cover water, and...

Cool seasonal weather has returned and we were even blessed with some rain this week. It was not enough rain, but some is better than none. Rivers have bumped up a bit and with the cool nights in the forecast, water temps will start to slide. Increased flows and cooler temps should ramp up the bite this weekend. King Salmon are in full swing with reports rolling in of plenty of fish in nearly every river in the state.  Warm water bite has still been good and plenty have been getting out and capitalizing on these local options and ducking...

Once again it’s that time of the year when we say goodbye to the steelhead that filled our rivers since October! It has been a great season by all accounts. I would like to thank all my clients that fished steelhead with me this year, definitely had its ups and downs but over all it was an awesome season! Summer nights are officially here and trout fishing has been steadily improving. Bugs are in the air and trout are rising in the evening with regularity, finally. Don't forget your headlamps like I did this weekend, you are going to want them as we start fishing later and later into the evenings.  Caddis, Sulphurs, and Gray Drakes and Brown Drakes are on the menu depending on where you are headed.
