Happy New Year! Thanks for all the support last year! Fishing has been pretty good lately, up until we got absolutely blasted with rain a few nights ago. Grand Rapids received over 2.5 inches of rain very quickly. Most of the rivers in West Michigan right now are still quite high from that storm system, but are receding and should be in better shape soon. Looks like the month of January is going to be warmer than average. Always nice having a mild winter, since it makes steelhead fishing so much easier. Hopefully we don't have a repeat of last...
December 18th | Merry Fishmas
Merry Fishmas to all! Steelhead fishing has been pretty darn good with the little warm up over the weekend. Water was about perfect, with a slight stain and a nice level. Fish were active and playful. Mainly on bright clown eggs and hex flies. Trout bite was good too. Stoneflies and caddis were working fine. The rest of this week looks to be pretty chilly, but by the weekend it should warm up, and stay that way for the rest of next week. Should be good for some Christmas angling! Not much else to add on the steelhead front. Fish...
December 5th, 2019 | Ride the Wave
Lots of water lately. It seems to be the norm this year. Most rivers are high from all the rain the past week but are dropping into shape nicely. Also had a wild snow squall over the weekend that wasn't exactly predicted, and dumped a huge amount of wet, heavy snow. So much so, that tons of trees and limbs were folded right into the rivers. So a lot of the spots you're familiar with may have been affected. Keep it in mind if you're planning on floating this weekend, and definitely bring a saw. Steelhead are out there....
November 27th, 2019 | Be Thankful
Fishing has been steady over the past week, with steelhead and trout being our main targets. Day to day, it’s been all over the map. Good one day, slow the next. For someone looking to sneak away from the family and get on the water, it’s certainly a good time to do so. Despite the high water, the fish are often times willing to play if you put your time in, work each hole thoroughly, and stay determined. The steelhead bite has been pretty decent in general, but wouldn’t say it’s good. This is probably due to the high, dirty, cold...
Nov 20th, 2019 | Buck Fever
This past week has been quite good. Swing bite has been good, as well as the nymph program. Still have to work for them, but with the water temps stabilized, they have been pretty cooperative. Fish numbers are good basically everywhere. The Grand, Muskegon, PM, White, and Manistee have plenty of fish. More are on the way in the coming weeks. Egg patterns in Cream, Apricot, and McCheese are good this time of year as a lot of the dead eggs start to tumble. Clown eggs with these base colors, with a touch of bright orange or pink would also...
