Fishing has been steady over the past week, with some glorious weather on Saturday and Sunday. Water temps were at 40deg Monday, which is quite warm considering we are still in the gut of winter. The next fews days will be cold again, with some possible snow mixed it. But thankfully, it's not going to be extremely cold, and will still allow us to get out! Drifting small nymphs has still been the best method right now. Pale nuke eggs and glow bugs have hooked steelhead, as well as stoneflies and alevin. Caddis and small stoneflies have been good for...

Trout and Steel have been great lately, and the weather has been very cooperative. No huge rain storms recently have allowed the water to reside, and stabilize nicely. We actually got a good amount of melt last week, and some of the water temps really dropped because of it. Still, fishing has been good, with plenty of solid outings. Steelhead are on the move, and are starting to fan gravel in areas, which is very early. If the weather stays the same, we could see a very early arrival of the Spring fish, which are just starting to show up....
January 23rd, 2020 | Never Gets Old
Fishing has been strong lately. Lots of willing fish on small nymphs and pale colored eggs. Large stones, pheasant tails, and copper johns have been good choices, as well as small nuke eggs and clown eggs. Sometimes sizing down your tippet to 6lb fluoro can get more bites, and you've still got a shot at landing the fish since the water is in the mid thirties. The handful of steelhead we landed this past weekend really didn't fight much at all. Just a few big headshakes, a boil on the surface, then from there it was just tug of war....
January 15th, 2020 | Winter Bliss
Water is up and dirty right now, but starting to drop and clear. There are steelhead around, but most of us have been targeting trout. Nymphing for them has been good, with the occasional steelhead hookup to keep it interesting. Steelhead numbers are quite low it seems, but sounds like there are some fresh ones showing up everywhere with the high water. Hopefully the Spring run is strong, like it usually is. Depending on the water, we could see them early if the water temps stay cold for a prolonged amount of time. Sounds like there are already some fish spawning in certain...

Happy New Year! Thanks for all the support last year! Fishing has been pretty good lately, up until we got absolutely blasted with rain a few nights ago. Grand Rapids received over 2.5 inches of rain very quickly. Most of the rivers in West Michigan right now are still quite high from that storm system, but are receding and should be in better shape soon. Looks like the month of January is going to be warmer than average. Always nice having a mild winter, since it makes steelhead fishing so much easier. Hopefully we don't have a repeat of last...
