24/7
We are at the peak of the "24/7 season." Trout fishing is good all day and all night. No matter how you approach the river, anytime of day can be productive. So much fun having all these opportunities available. Mousing, hatch matching, streamer fishing, prospecting dries, indicator nymphing, euro nymphing, trout spey, soft hackles, and even terrestrial fishing are all in play. It's an incredible time to be a fly angler in the great state of Michigan. We truly have it good, and we are excited to be smack dab in the middle of the best fishing window of the...
Quarantine Life
First off, we hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this chaotic time. It's a very unnerving situation, with so much uncertainty ahead of us. We wish you all the best going forward, and hope everything returns to normalcy soon. We've been getting out a fair amount, and the fishing has been good. We're going to keep it brief this time. Trout have been great. Steelhead have been fun, but certainly dwindling. Nymphing has been the best, streamers have been fantastic. Swinging for steelhead also good. Warmwater bite is turning on. Dry flies are going strong. Lots of options...
March 24th
Well, things have really escalated here in Michigan. Over the past 24 hours, the government has issued a statewide lock-down, instructing people to stay at home as much as possible. As far as we can tell, you are STILL ALLOWED to go fishing. But be smart about it, don't share a boat with a buddy, and try not to stop at gas stations along the way (if you can help it). There is nothing wrong with driving to the river, and spending some time outdoors. Again, be smart about it, and take this ordeal seriously. The only way we're going...
PANDEMIC
We are in the midst of a pandemic! The Midwest Fly Fishing Expo in Warren this weekend has been cancelled, and the same goes for the Ultimate Sport Show in GR next week. For now, both shops will remain open. It seems to us that fly tying and fishing are fairly legitimate forms of social distancing. Please keep your local shop in mind in the coming weeks. Remember that most of our inventory is on our website and we SHIP FOR FREE. If you cant find it on our website and would like it shipped to your house, give us a...
Feb 13th 2020
The steelhead are really showing up in big numbers now. In certain areas they have started to spawn, and as more fish come inland, the spawn will really start to ramp up in the next few weeks. Our favorite time to target the steelhead is when they are staging. The prespawn season is just beginning, and goes until the first week of March or so. Seems to be a little earlier this year, but this prespawn window is very fun. There are lots of chrome fish around, and they aren't quite up on the gravel spawning yet. All the buckets...
