The End of Winter?
The signs of spring are all around and it seems like the end of winter is finally in sight. This weekend will hopefully be the last bout of cold before warmer weather graces our future. As water temperatures begin to creep up next week expect the fishing to heat up too. Lots of good fishing reports from the last week are coming in from across the state. Fresh steelhead are showing up and indicator fishing has been a great producer. Trout fishing has also been pretty good. Euro nymphing continues to be the most productive method for targeting early season trout. ...
Abrupt Change
The drought we experienced earlier this month has come to a definitive end, and we’re now facing some very different fishing conditions. It took a lot of rain to fill the low water table and we recovered two months worth of precipitation in about two and a half days. If the forecast for most of the Lower Peninsula is correct, we expect to see high and dirty water for a week or more. Look for quick-draining tributaries and creeks which should have better clarity. Anglers have had success streamer fishing and this may be the name of the game...

Spring Awakening
As with most things here in the midwest, life seems to be dictated to some degree by the change of season and uncertain weather patterns. For us anglers, these transitions are sometimes easier to anticipate than they are to actually prepare for. We spend the winter months restocking fly boxes, overhauling organizational systems, and tinkering with equipment that might just be better off left alone.
