Steelhead Fishing Report Over the past week we have seen two different types of water conditions, the water before sunday was getting low and clear again with flows around 230 cfs and dropping. We were running light leaders 10lbs - 8lbs just depending on the water that day and the flies we are running were very small natural patterns to get bites (peach, light pink, light orange regular eggs and rag eggs). But as the week went on rain started hitting the ground bringing up the water levels to around 350 cfs and climbing due to the rain I am watching...

Trout Fishing Update - Winter Trout... It's not for the weak minded let me tell you, whether its frozen hands, frozen feet, or just your whole body is frozen it takes a certain person with the right amount of passion to do it. With all those things there are a few people who love it, and myself along with my client Jim are those crazy people standing in the river in a snowstorm chasing trout. We had a slow morning working side pockets Euro Nymphing very slow water and inside seams which got us a couple smaller trout nothing to write...

Steelhead / Brown Trout Fishing Report Steelhead around Grand Rapids has been a little slower due to water levels being very low in almost all of our rivers. We have found a few fish around Grand Rapids in the tribs, for the most part it's been an all nymph bite. Size 8-12 nymphs have been getting the only bites of the day, the flies we have been using in my boat are (Hex nymphs, Krilla, and Stoneflies). Yesterday we had fish take on size 10 Stones. As you travel further north the fishing has been a little better, with the...

Well where did all the snow go? In true Michigan style it went from 2 feet of snow to 40 and raining, which isn't the worst thing in the world due to the low water levels across the state. I was up north all weekend poking around steelhead rivers swinging and indy fishing with no great luck, it was tough all weekend with the blue bird skies paired with 50 degree temps, it wasn't the best idea I have ever had. I will say the fish are there, with good bumps happening every so often along with 2 steelhead just unhooking...

Well Fall is here and in full swing... From the temp drop, leaves changing colors, and oh ya Kings, Coho, and Steelhead are in hot and heavy! With the lack of water across the state it's been tough trying to fight the low gin clear water. The name of the game right now is huge attractor patterns or tiny subtle patterns to get bites, whether that be blob eggs to size 8 McFly foam eggs but for the most part the key is fishing lighter line such as 10 lb. to get bites more often. The rigs my clients and myself...
