Want to start by saying the Grand Rapids Fly Fishing Film Tour is TOMORROW! There are 2 showings, one at 4pm and another at 7pm. Our stack of tickets is dwindling fast, and by the time you're reading this we will likely be out of 4pm tickets, but still have a good amount for the 7pm show. Call us with a credit card ready and we can do it over the phone and set your tickets aside, and you can pick them up at the shop.
Steelhead are strong! Mostly winter fish right now but there are some brighter fish showing up each week. This weekend looks nice and warm, so that will surely ramp up the big Spring push. Also some rain next week, which will also help draw in the herd.
Looks like the month of March is going to be way above average as far as temps go. Looking forward to some nice warm weather, after a very mild winter. We deserved a nice easy season, and we certainly got it. The early stonefly hatch will start sometime next month, and is a great way to escape the crowds, and find some solitude in front of rising trout. So much fun.
But until then, the trout and steelhead will keep everyone plenty busy. Small stonefly nymphs, eggs, alevin, caddis, pheasant tails, fry patterns will reign supreme. Lots of insect activity as the nymphs are getting bigger and bigger after developing throughout the winter months.
Also looking forward to the streamer program coming into view. Once the water warms a bit, they become much more willing to chase and eat. Yes, you can do it all winter, but it's so much easier and more productive when the water stays in the upper 40's and lower 50's.
We've still got some calsses coming up, including some tying 201 classes, as well as a euro nymphing crash course in Grand Rapids on march 22nd. View our entire class lineup HERE
This weekend, many of us will be in Novi for the Outdoorama Expo. Come by and check it out if you're in the area. Other upcoming events:
Midwest Fly Fishing Expo March 14th-15th Warren MI
Ultimate Sport Show March 19th - 22nd Grand Rapids MI
We will be at both shows, swing through and say hi!
Thanks for the support, see you out there!
