February 23rd, 2023
Although it may feel like winter has returned this week, it seems like its grip is loosening. After an icy couple of days, the weather forecast for this weekend and into next week looks relatively mild.
Fishing reports from the past weekend and this week leading into the storm have been quite good. There are plenty of fish around, and many of them seem to be willing to play. The bump in flows the other week shuffled the deck a bit, and brought some new fish into the system. Now that we are back down to normal flows, good fishing should continue this weekend.
Trout bite has been good lately as well. Small eggs and stoneflies are great options this time of year. Drew got out recently and found this fine specimen.
We have postponed this week's Brews and Bugs with Lance Nelson and John Sheets from Gates AuSable Lodge. We will now be holding this, our final Brews and Bugs of the season, on Thursday March 16th from 5-7pm. And we are excited to announce that we will be holding this class at Third Nature Brewing Company in Rockford! We would love to see you there! Class cost is $25 and you can RSVP HERE.
If you need some new flies to fill up that depleted steelhead box as we roll into spring, be sure to sign up for our Steelhead Flies Tying Class coming up Monday February 27th 6-8pm.
Finally, the Fly Fishing Film Tour is coming back to Grand Rapids at the Wealthy Theatre on Thursday March 30th. Swing by the shop for discounted tickets.
Good luck to everyone getting out this weekend.
