March 31st - Finally Spring
Have you been to the river in the last week or so and seemed to shine a little bit more than normal? Well you're right, there's chrome everywhere. April brings some of the best spring fishing you can get into, with steelhead flooding into most rivers in Michigan. The End of Winter?
The signs of spring are all around and it seems like the end of winter is finally in sight. This weekend will hopefully be the last bout of cold before warmer weather graces our future. As water temperatures begin to creep up next week expect the fishing to heat up too. Lots of good fishing reports from the last week are coming in from across the state. Fresh steelhead are showing up and indicator fishing has been a great producer. Trout fishing has also been pretty good. Euro nymphing continues to be the most productive method for targeting early season trout. ...
Fall...Finally!
This Fall has certainly been interesting, and at times a bit frustrating. With August-like weather leeching into the king salmon run and scattered, short-lived rainfall across most of the lower peninsula, many of us are hoping for a long cold soak. Many steelhead anglers are happy to see lower, fairly consistent temperatures ahead. The run of king salmon is tapering down and a few coho are being found. Steelhead numbers are increasing.
