Once again it’s that time of the year when we say goodbye to the steelhead that filled our rivers since October! It has been a great season by all accounts. I would like to thank all my clients that fished steelhead with me this year, definitely had its ups and downs but over all it was an awesome season! Well it was spring weather for a short while but as I am writing this report it’s snowing. But with all this change where does it put us in the steelhead run… Well from everything I have seen down town Grand Rapids and on the Rogue we are right in the peak of the run. With the rain in the forecast on Friday, rivers will once again be on the rise which could bring us another push of fresh fish. Although it may feel like winter has returned this week, it seems like its grip is loosening. After an icy couple of days, the weather forecast for this weekend and into next week looks relatively mild.  Fishing reports from the past weekend and this week leading into the storm have been quite good. There are plenty of fish around, and many of them seem to be willing to play. The bump in flows the other week shuffled the deck a bit, and brought some new fish into the system. On Memorial Day we honor the fallen members of our military and reflect on the freedom we enjoy because of their sacrifice. As plans are being made for this weekend, I can't help but remember a day when I was nine years old. I'd been listening in on a heated discussion about the decision to go to war with Iraq. Based on the calendar, The Spring run is "here". But in general, we are still waiting on the big pulse of chrome fish. Most of the rivers have plenty of steelhead, but mainly just the holdovers from the fall. We are banking on the upcoming rain this week, paired with the warm weather to draw in more fish from the lake. The forecast is absurdly warm, so that will only help things along.  Not to say there are no chrome fish around, there certainly are.
