December 11, 2018 - Mild Thaw
First of all, we want to thank everyone for their support lately. We have been busy at both shops with the holiday frenzy. Great times! Lots of cool GIFTS at both shops, swing through if you haven't already. So again, THANK YOU for your support!
Over the past week, I would say the steelhead fishing has improved. I use the word "improved" loosely, as it's still pretty difficult. But the weather pattern looks very promising, with a nice warmup and some rain mixed in. It's supposed to be in the 40's this weekend. A recipe for epic steelhead fishing!
We've gotten some fish on nymphs and estaz eggs. This one ate a blue copper john late in the afternoon.
Overall things have been slow...
But the trout fishing has been a fun backup plan. Lots of activity on small tungsten jigs, stoneflies, scuds, and midges. Sometimes it's a great way to mix things up, and do something different. Huge fan of the Echo Shadow II 10'6" 4wt
It's hard to spin it any other way at this point. The same words are used over and over in the shop lately; "slow," "quiet," "dead," and "pathetic" are heard in conversation daily. But we have incredible resources here in Michigan, and simply being outside and enjoying the river and nature is enough to make for a fun day.
Thanks again for the support! See you out there!
